Cooperation between Ireland and UK on gambling regulation reforms

(Dublin).- The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).

Cooperation between Ireland and UK on gambling regulation reforms

As noted in a GRAI press release, the agreement was signed on April 2 during UKGC CEO Andrew Rhodes’ visit to Dublin, where he met with GRAI CEO Anne-Marie Caulfield.

This MoU sets the stage for stronger cooperation between the two regulators, aiming to bolster regulatory supervision, promote responsible gambling, and enhance enforcement strategies in both Ireland and the UK.

The agreement seeks to establish closer ties between the authorities, supporting the more effective execution of their respective responsibilities.

Following the signing, the two parties held a bilateral meeting to discuss key regulatory matters such as compliance, monitoring frameworks, enforcement measures, and the exchange of best practices.

The meeting served to align strategic priorities and strengthen institutional collaboration.

This MoU is the first in a series of agreements GRAI plans to sign with other European gambling regulators. The goal is to create a solid network of cooperation that will support uniform regulatory standards and facilitate the cross-border regulation of gambling.

The agreement comes as GRAI, officially launched in March, begins to take an active role in shaping Ireland’s gambling industry. The authority is currently expanding its regulatory capabilities and infrastructure. At present, GRAI consists of seven staff members, with Anne-Marie Caulfield serving as CEO since 2022.
